The project was to build a rainwater catchment system at the health center.
Charles reports:
The Mutingongo water project, designed to bring regular access to clean water to the Mutingongo Health Center through a rainwater catchment system, has been completed.
The work began by commissioning a local craftsman to build a concrete stand for the tank. He set himself on the job quickly and finished within a week.
Once the base was finished I purchased a 2,500 L tank, PVC gutters, and a PVC pipe to connect the two, and delivered them to the site.
There was a stall in construction at this point because the gutters could not be mounted directly onto the roof. We first needed to buy timber to mount to the roof and then mount the gutters to the timber. The problem was that project funding had run out.
Luckily, the Assistant Chief of Mutingongo, Stella, came to the rescue and purchased the timber out of her own pocket. The gutters were then mounted and the tank set on its stand.
The final step of the project was to install a tap onto the tank. Again, money was an issue, but my counterpart PST Jairus Muhatia found a plumber who was willing to do the job cheaply, and I put up the small amount necessary to finish the project.
The tank has been of immediate use since there has been ample rain recently. The Assistant Chief of Mutingongo, the Administrator of the Mutingongo Health Center, and the citizens of Mutingongo would like to send their heart-felt thanks to Water Charity for their assistance in this project.
We are grateful to Charles for completing this project. We are still accepting donations.
