Conclusion of KIWAMM Pump Project – Tanzania

This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Max Wohlgemuth.

The project was to build an irrigation system the KIWAMM environmental group.

Max reports:

The pump was successfully installed with the help of regional officers. It was tested and works great.

A hole had to be dug to allow for a pool of water to collect. The pump then pulls water from the hole. The water first goes to a filter that gets out any debris that might clog the small holes in the plastic irrigation lines. It then goes on to the lines themselves.

With Water Charity funds, we were also able to get a barrel for mixing in natural fertilizers with the water that allows for these fertilizers to be easily distributed.

The group had a small setback with the first batch of seedlings that were planted. We have since planted more, and have been able to recover many from the first batch.

At this point the field is ready and the seedlings are about done and ready for planting.

We are grateful to Max for completing this project, and again wish to thank the donors who provided the funding.
