Conclusion of Kasinje Borehole Repair Project – Malawi

This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Kristi Mathis.

The project was to repair the pump on the borehole at Kasinje.

Kristi reports:

The project to repair the pump was completed, with the cost slightly above budget. In addition, the soak pit was rebuilt, and a brick skirting was built around the edge of the borehole to keep out excess water. The community also contributed to the success of the project by helping raise the pipes, clean the old parts, and maintain the soak pit.

The community and the chief of the village are extremely grateful and expressed repeatedly that they could not have done this project on their own, without funding.

The community took ownership and responsibility over the project, which I think made it extremely successful, and it was finished in just 10 days.

The community of Kasinje promises to take extremely good care of their “new” borehole and has elected a new borehole committee to maintain the borehole and lock it when not in use.

Again the community would like to express great thanks to Appropriate Projects and all of the people who made funding this project so streamlined and successful. Thanks again.

We, in turn, are grateful to Kristi for completing this important project. We again wish to thank cheryl fialek for providing the funding.
