The project was to construct new latrines on the school compound.
Lindsey reports:
The latrine project at the primary school was completed successfully!
The first step to creating the latrines was to dig the pit for the latrines, which was done by labor provided by the parents of the students.
The project team, which consisted of the Works Manager, Julius, his two assistants, and the headmistress of the school, Elcah, began to gather materials for the construction of the building with funds from Water Charity. They were an integral part of the process going smoothly, keeping track of all materials and having the building finished in merely one week’s time.
One third of the projects funds came from the community, which shows their great interest and investment in their children, and a want for clean and sanitary facilities for the school.
Once the school term begins again, I will be visiting the school to talk with the students and the members of the parent committee, who were so helpful in the process of building these latrines. Now the over 600 girls who are in attendance at this school have new sanitary facilities.
The team of workers, the school, and myself send many thanks to those who donated towards this greatly needed project!
We are grateful to Lindsey for completing the project, and again extend our thanks to the Elmo Foundation and Lindsey’s friends and family for providing the funding.
