The project was to build 9 latrines in Saré Pathé Bouya.

The Sare Pathe Bouya latrine project was a success!
Work in the community began as soon as I heard that the project had been approved. Members of each household receiving a latrine began digging with enthusiasm, especially since the rainy season was just around the corner.
When the funds came through, the mason and I went to a nearby market town to buy the supplies needed (cement, rebar, etc.) so that he could begin working on those latrines that had been dug to the specified depth of two meters.
We had one minor setback that week when the first big rain storm hit (a month before last year’s rains!) and eroded some of the pits before the mason could get to work on them. Luckily, the damage was minor and easily repaired, allowing the rest of the project to continue without a hitch.
In all, we finished nine latrines, including one that was desperately needed at the local health hut.
Thanks to Water Charity, every single compound in Sare Pathe now has at least one functional pit latrine. The population wishes to express their extreme gratitude for helping them toward their goals of improved health through proper sanitation! A baraka!
