The project was to renovate the bathroom at the library to provide for handicapped accessibility.
Michael reports:
The project to provide handicapped accessibility and make necessary sanitary improvements for use by all has been completed. Because of these improvements, programs for people with disabilities have been implemented and the concept of “inclusion”, while not a well-accepted concept for Ukraine, is fully in place.
Two new toilets and a sink have been installed. Clogged supply and waste piping dating to its original construction in the 1930’s has been replaced and the spaces have been rearranged to meet handicapped accessibility dimensional requirements.
Also, the Water Charity funds, having credibility, spurred the generation of additional funding from the city of Vinnytsia, the main library, and the U.S. Embassy. In addition to the toilet room improvements, ramps, a chair lift to the second floor and handicapped-accessible grab bars have been installed. The toilet room also has new tile wall finishes and cheerful lighting. This additional funding was directly attributed to an awareness of the Water Charity funding.
