The project was to purchase and install a Grundfos submersible pump to bring water from the borehole to the community center.
Maureen reports:
The project has been satisfactorily completed according to the recommendations of the technical experts from Bomaka Construction and Supply.
With the support of the village development committee, Bomaka Construction and Supply, Chief Dembo Santang Bojang, The United States Peace Corps, and Water Charity the Nematoulie Community Centre was able to design and construct a water system to provide clean drinking water to more than 3,500 residents.
Water Charity funds were used for the installation of the submersible pump. Although the community contribution was delayed by financial constraints, the funds became available and the work was finally accomplished.
The founder of The Nematoulie Community Centre expressed his gratitude to the parties for their contribution to the development of the community. Mr. Bojang stressed the critical importance of the partnership between local communities, development organizations, and donors to meeting the increasing demands for community-based development initiatives.
Members of The Nematoulie Community Centre expressed their appreciation for the provision of water, alleviating the long distances that they had to transport water for community events. As Mrs. Aissatou Sanneh of Brikama noted, when organizing community events, the women had to transport water from over 100 meters to be able to provide water. The pump has now decreased the time and labor-intensive burden of providing clean drinking water.
It is anticipated that the water system will be extended to include 3 taps for the surrounding communities.
