The project was to implement a solid waste management program by building 10 community rubbish bins and stands along the main road of the community.
Elisa reports:
The project has been completed.
The photo that says “Love Elisa” was a message they painted on one of the stands. The rest say things like “Keep Vaipu’a Clean” or “Tautau le Aai” (Take care of the village). (The vodka bottle is used for drinking water.)
There were 10 stands built from one end of the village to the other, and they were (and are, I hope) being well used.
In an interview for a news story, two village members mentioned the rubbish bin project. One, the vice principal Tuaia, said “The rubbish bins are encouraging the village be cleaner, and they show our efforts to other villages. I hope other villages will follow our idea.”
