The project was to build a well at the women’s garden in Timbindallah
Ruth reports:
We finally finished the well for the Thimbindallah’s women’s garden.
The garden has taken a longer time than expected because the village chief designated a different spot for the garden, under the conditions that the former owner could plant and harvest this past rainy season crops. The large number of women in the village became difficult to organize into one garden, so we have split into two gardens, one for the Pulaar and one for the Saraholde women, because the two ethnic groups are distrustful of each other.
The Saraholde brought their money to add to the Water Charity funds in order to build a deep and durable well. Once the harvest was complete, the women found a well digger and he began digging.
With the completion of the well, we received Peace Corps Food Security funds in order to build a chain link fence. We then transplanted our seeds to the new garden space and got a late start on the cool gardening season.
