Community Description
Though the community is strongly motivated with respect to health improvement, financing is an ongoing issue with the residents. Of the 76 homes surveyed, there are 26 households without a latrine, and 13 households with a broken latrine. Because of this, many people in the village must go to the fields or rely on the kindness of a neighbor who has a latrine.

Project Description
This project aims to provide 30 houses with a latrine to combat open defecation in the community.
The health committee has determined the distribution of the latrines in the community and has chosen the masons.
The community will begin digging the pits where the waste will be stored and bring the sand to build the cement blocks, as part of their in-kind contribution.
The materials will be purchased, and the bricks made to create the bricks for the waste storage chamber and building unit. The masons will then proceed to construct the latrines.
A hand-washing and soap-making causerie will be held for the people in the community.
After construction, a causerie will be held with the help of the masons on how to properly take care of a latrine so that it can be used for 5-10 years.

Monitoring and Maintenance
In order to monitor the impact of the project, a baseline survey will be done in the community. To ensure that the project is sustainable, latrine maintenance training will be held for all members of the community.
A latrine maintenance fund for the community will be established, where people opt in to pay 500CFA ($1) per month to the health structure in the community in order to address latrine problems as they arise and to fund new latrines for the community.
