Jessica Reports:
The Sare Saedou project started promptly after village meetings designated people for specific preparatory and labor tasks for refinishing the school well. The majority of the work fell on a few craftsmen from the village even though the upgrade benefits the teachers and the children from several surrounding villages. Without electricity, removing the old structure took a decent amount of manual labor, but those that removed the posts got to repurpose them for personal uses. School children were rounded up to help collect water and sand for the concrete mixture- a common contribution.Following reconstruction, handwashing stations were installed as a follow-up project to reinforce the benefits of the nearby well and its purposes. In addition, rotating cleaning and drinking water-refilling schedule agreements were made for maintaining health and sanitation in the classrooms and the latrines. The students are less likely to go without water or handwashing while at school during the day. Over 100 children are still attending the school.The students and teachers at the Sare Saedou primary school along with the surrounding community send their gratitude and blessings to those that made this small but meaningful project possible.
