This project was to purchase and install four 50-liter water tanks, which will serve as handwashing stations near the latrines and near the classrooms.
Jennifer reports:
The Saint Leonard School Handwashing Station Project has been completed. The school’s staff finished the project within three weeks of receiving the funds.
During a school-wide assembly, the headmistress presented the project to the students and demonstrated use of the tanks. The school’s staff is responsible for maintaining the tanks, including keeping them filled with water, and the school has committed to keeping a supply of soap at each station. The tanks are now used by male and female staff and students of all ages.
Sister Colette Hakizimana, the school’s headmistress, took a significant leadership role in this project and was responsible for its completion and success. She believes the opportunity for handwashing will reduce disease among the students and staff and Saint Leonard.
