The project was to provide a new latrine for the elementary school teachers and visitors of the school.
Sarah reports:
My village school now has a wonderful complete functioning latrine. The process took much longer than expected because the school director is frequently away from the village. In the end though, after a meeting I scheduled with the community, everyone stepped up to complete the project.
The money we received from Appropriate Projects provided most of the materials, and the community paid for the labor of digging the septic tank.
A pleasant surprise during the process was that an entrepreneur who was building a new classroom at the school agreed to pay for the remaining materials needed, and help finish the latrine. This was a major contribution that greatly improved the quality of the latrine we built, giving us metal doors and a ceramic turkish toilet seat.
The community is extremely happy with the project, and almost every day I hear people thanking me for helping make it happen. The teachers and children at the school will now have a clean and appropriate latrine for use every day.
The community sends all their thanks to Appropriate Projects for the financial help, and I also appreciate the ease in which this project was funded, and intend to do another with the middle school in another village.
We wish to thank Sarah for completing this project, and again extend our gratitude to The Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust for providing the funding.
