The project was to implement a waste management system in one of Mar Lodj’s eight quartiers.
Neil reports:
This project has been successfully completed!
Water Charity provided the necessary funds to implement a waste management system that has created jobs, promoted ecotourism, and improved the overall quality of life for the small island community of Mar Lodj.
The funds that were provided went towards the purchasing and transportation of the following materials: garbage cans, bricks, cement, iron rods, iron wire, gravel, sand, and labor.
The garbage cans were transported from the capital city and given to individual households in the community. The remaining materials were used to build a structure outside of the village to collect, separate, and properly dispose of the trash.
There were many challenges that the community had to face when implementing this project, including the rainy season, transportation strikes, and the inability to purchase materials locally. However, they persevered and are extremely grateful for the help that Water Charity has provided. In fact, they can’t wait to expand this project and lend a helping hand to other communities in the area!
We are grateful to Neil for completing this project.
