The project was to provide running water and three hand washing stations at the preschool and elementary school.
Taylor reports:
All 3 tanks have been installed and are in operation. In December, we went to the schools and installed the equipment, then recently returned to make sure everything was still in working order. With the help of the Municipality of Santiago, faucets and soap dispensers have also been installed.
These schools now have access to running water the entire school day. This has been a huge help in a wider handwashing campaign that we have been working on since August of 2013. We are wrapping up the installations and starting on the education piece of the project now that the new school year has started.
I was in Los Castillos this morning and the directors of the preschool and elementary school are very happy with their new water tanks and pumps. The regular access to water is a huge and welcome change for their students. They eagerly await the next phase of the project.
Thanks again for the funding. It made a huge difference to these schools to have regular access to running water. I am excited to move on to the education phase, something that we could not do until the students had running water and soap.
We are grateful to Taylor for completing this project, and again wish to thank the Elmo Foundation and Taylor’s friends and family for providing the funding.
