The project was to build a rainwater catchment system at the school.
Amber reports:
The tank was installed at Ititu Primary school at the initiative of the head-mistress, assistant deputy and parents.
We prepared to complete the project within a month, and they accordingly went and made orders for all of the materials that were needed, namely the tank, gutters, nails, facial boarding, stones, cement and sand, and contracted builders.
Once the funds were received these materials were quickly collected and the rain tank was raised. The process in this was very straightforward with all of the materials being collected simultaneously by the head-mistress and the assistant deputy of the school.
Once the materials arrived work immediately began with the pre-contracted builders who built the rain tank base, installed the tank, attached the facial boarding to the building, attached the gutters to the facial boarding and then connected the gutters to the tank.
The rain tank was erected on school grounds and will therefore benefit a number of children from Pre-Nursery to Standard 8, in addition to the 18 teachers who work there. Luckily the tank was finished just in time for the rains and is now full to the brim!
The school cook is especially pleased to have a rain tank on campus as it “makes her work much easier”. The head-mistress thanks you for “your care and concern in making possible the provision of clean water for the children” and when asked if they were glad to have a rain tank the children responded with an unequivocal “YES!”
