The project was to build a rainwater catchment system at the school.
Robert reports:
The rainwater catchment system for the Idunda Primary School has successfully been installed.
After acquiring the necessary materials, the installation was completed in two days. The work was done by two local artisans.
Using bricks donated by the community, the artisans created a stand and then finished it with an outer layer of cement.
The community organized the transportation of the 3,000-liter water tank by a local lorry.
After the cement dried, the tank was placed on the stand, and a spigot was inserted.
The gutters were installed and connected to the tank.
This project will provide approximately 250 students and 6 teachers with easy access to clean water during both the rainy and dry seasons. The water will be used for a variety of purposes, including drinking, cooking, and cleaning the school and bathrooms.
The ease of access to water will allow the students to focus more fully on their studies and will save them the daily 3 km trek to the river to fetch the approximately 70-100 liters of water that they use daily.
