The project was to extend the water supply to and to install sinks in the male and female dormitory wards of the Rubona Health Center. This completes the process of providing running water in all of the services of the health center.
Emmett reports:
Phase 3 of the Rubona Water Project included the installation of two sinks: one in the men’s hospitalization ward and one in the women’s hospitalization ward.
Previous to the completion of this project, the hospitalization wards only had buckets of water available to the patients. These buckets were routinely filled by staff members. If no staff member was available, the patients had to leave the ward and go to the nearest working sink or hand-washing station.
The work progressed smoothly and quickly. Pipes were installed underground from the main water collection tank to each sink (also newly installed) in each respective ward.
The end result was two working sinks that made running water easily available to patients. This freed up a lot of time for the staff and improved sanitation in the hospitalization wards.
