This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Natalie Brusseau. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.
The project was to bring easily-accessible drinking water to students and staff at School Number 7 by installing two new handwashing stations and a drinking fountain with filtered water.
Natalie reports:
The handwashing stations and filtered water project were a success! The school was able to provide the labor and begin collecting soap and paper towels from families at school to continue making the handwashing station functional.
When the sinks were installed, we placed signs on each of the sinks – one marked clearly for drinking water and the other to wash hands.
Teachers commented to me that some of the students were in awe of the sinks – they had never seen sinks with running water and the faucets that we purchased.
When I observed some students using the sinks, I was amazed that, in fact, the younger students felt like they were at a museum! It was exciting and a little sad at the same time… knowing that many of the students don’t have running water in their homes.
Thank you for your support – you are truly making a difference in the overall health of people around the world!
We again wish to thank The Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust for providing the funding for the project.
