This project has been completed under the technical direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Erika Berg. To read about the beginning of this project, CLICK HERE.
This project was to build 10 latrines in various compounds throughout the village of Ndoumane.
Each latrine was to be lined with cement bricks to prevent ground contamination, ventilated with a plastic pipe, covered, and equipped with a hand washing station to maximize health benefits.
Erika reports:
Thanks to our lovely donors Ndoumane now has ten more latrines that will inevitably improve sanitation, as they provide a contained place for human refuse.
Villagers dug holes, brought in gravel, organized a mason and completed the project exactly one month after receiving project funds.
What follows is encouragement to wash hands after using a latrine and before eating. Behavior change is tricky, but be assured that the latrine construction has and will continue to contribute to better health practices in this tiny village full of fabulous people.
She went on to express the gratitude of the village to the people who made the project possible. We again wish to thank Hope You Like It and friends of Erika Berg for their donations.
