This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Marielle Griggs.

The project was to build a water storage and irrigation system for the tree nursery.

Marielle reports:

We have completed the Tumalize Njaa Self Help Group water tank/irrigation project in Kasyelia village!

The project started with the ordering of a 5,000 liter water tank from Machakos. While we were waiting for that, the group used their construction skills to build a base out of cement for the tank. This was a lot of work as it required collecting rocks from the dry riverbed nearby. Finally the base was ready and the tank was delivered by truck over rough dirt roads.

The project funds went towards the tank, a tap and padlock, and transportation to the tree nursery site. The group contributed the materials and labor towards the base.

The project was a great success and will help the group far into the future to water the tree nursery and vegetable crops without having to carry jugs of water on their backs from the river.

Thanks for your support Water Charity!

We, in turn, extend our thanks to Marielle for completing this project. We are still seeking donations.
