Conclusion of Sambande School Latrine Project – Senegal

This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Jennie Wysong. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.

The project was to construct a latrine structure with 3 stalls.

Jennie reports:

The community expressed their sincere gratitude for the latrines at the school.

Our local government demonstrated their support and appreciation by lending us a car to transport all of the building materials to the village free of charge.

We ran into some unforeseen expenses with the latrines, and the community and parents association rallied to produce an additional $60 in addition to digging the 2m x 2m x 2m septic tank, which I believe demonstrates their support and contributes to their sense of ownership in the project.

They are also raised another $10 to have the latrines coated with a smooth layer of cement, after which the students and I painted a hand washing mural.

We extend our thanks to Jennie for completing the project, and again wish to thank The Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust for providing the funding.
