Conclusion of Piman Kindergarten Restroom Project – Thailand

This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Anita Root. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.

This project was to improve the restroom facilities by renovating 3 of the 8 restroom units.

Anita writes:

The project was finished a few weeks ago but they were finishing up with some painting so wanted to wait until that was done before sending you the final update/pictures.

It has been very rewarding — I had about $20 USD left over after all the supplies so today we had a small lunch with the children and invited members of the community — so 40 people in all! It was great.

The two teachers (married) are so thrilled — they are now asking my help to find a way to improve a few other things (not water-related unfortunately) at their kindergarten. The project sponsored by Water Charity made this connection possible and in this small community of Bak Bang — they point at me and say “farang, got sinks at the kindergarten for the children”. Wow, those are great days!

Attached are some pictures of the final product and the kids washing their hands and brushing their teeth (they promptly got their toothbrushes and brushed their teeth after lunch for my benefit!)

The one sign (no sink) is on the outside wall — it says wash hands, brush teeth and wash your face. Then a photo of washing their hands (girl) and brushing their teeth (boy). The other sign is the painting the teachers did over the sink area — I think it’s great!

We extend our thanks to Anita for carrying out the project and to the donors for their help.

We again wish to thank The Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust, with the help of friends and family of Anita, for providing the funds for this project.
