Conclusion of Namwera Water Supply Project – Malawi

This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Brianna Reed. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.

The project was to extend the pipeline from Maliera village to reach a majority of the people in Namwera Village, and to provide access through 8 spigots in convenient locations throughout the village.

Brianna reports:

I am writing to inform you that the Namwera waterpipe project is complete. We ran a bit later than expected, as our area had a bit more rain than usual, making the volunteer work difficult.

The community mobilized to dig trenches for the pipes from the end of the existing system to Namwera, almost 2 km away. Then a group from the Village Development Committee, led by a local plumber, installed the pipes and water spigots at 8 sites.

The comments from the village are a huge, overwhelming “Zikomo kwambiri! Tathokoza!” or “Thank you very much, we’re so grateful!” The Village headman in particular expressed his gratitude, as this lack of access to water had been a huge concern of his.

We again extend our thanks to Marcia Wijngaarden and friends and family of Peace Corps Volunteer Brianna Reed for providing funding for the project.
