This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Jennifer Navala.

The project was to build a rainwater catchment system at the school.

Jennifer reports:

The project has been completed.

It was determined that only a 5,000 liter tank was within the budget. Water Charity funds paid for the tank and transport to the site.

Parents of the Kioneki Primary students contributed to building the cement base during the week before the tank was delivered. Parents also did all of the work and contributed the supplies for the gutters and piping to the tank.

Students were ecstatic to receive their new tank. When the tank arrived, the children ran out of their classrooms, screaming “our tank, our tank!”

Children will no longer have to carry water a long distance from home. They will be able to use the water for drinking and hand washing, and the school staff will have access to clean water for cooking and cleaning.

We are grateful to Jennifer for completing this project.
