The project was to build a toilet and bath for the maternity ward at the clinic.
Nora reports:
The maternity ward bathroom at Itiso village’s health clinic has been successfully completed!
Some parts of the project were finished faster than others but in the end it has been completed with the help of a committee of six people, the village government and the clinic’s staff.
The bathroom includes a room with a latrine, another room with a bathtub, a large cement-reinforced sump hole.
After gathering additional funds at the clinic, the clinic staff decided to install a solar panel that lights the bathroom as well as the delivery room.
In recent months the number of deliveries has increased to as many as 45 in September. Mothers have expressed so much gratitude that this facility is available for them, that they can have privacy during labor, and that they don’t have to exert themselves walking all the way to the bathroom.
Health clinic staff says that it makes an enormous difference for women in labor.
