Conclusion of Escuela Oficial Rural Mixta Chichoche Handwashing Station Project – Guatemala

This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Alicia Swift. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.

The project was to build an 8-faucet handwashing station at the school:

Alicia reports:

The project at E.O.R.M. Chichoche went great!

Now the school is equipped with 8 faucets for the children. The handwashing station is located next to the bathrooms and in a central location so that the children will have easy access and will be more likely to practice healthy habits.

We found a very qualified mason to implement the project.

During the time of construction we gathered materials, transported them to the school and began construction. We started off by making a form with wood planks, filling in space with rocks. We then poured cement to make the base of the handwashing station. The mason then worked on the back wall of the station since it was not built on an existing wall. He placed drains (8 in total) and faucets and made sure there was a cleaning drain.

We are grateful to Alicia for completing this project. We also wish to again thank The
Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust for providing the funding.
