Conclusion of Botou Health Post Water Project – Senegal

This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Lianna Reed.

The project was designed to extend the existing piping 400 meters from the current public water spigot to the hospital. Since the hospital already was already equipped with the piping needed to get water to the sinks and other faucets, the supply line was all that was required.

Lianna reports:

We have completed the project to bring water to the Health Post in Botou, Tambacounda, Senegal.

This was a very fast-moving project. Once we got the money, we bought all the materials at one stop and brought them back to my village. We began digging a couple of weeks later and in three days over the course of two weeks, we had dug the 400-meter trench.

About 50 men in my village came out to dig, and as they dug, my work partner Madhu Fofana laid the piping and attached them all together. When all the digging was completed Madhu then connected the new piping to the existing piping at the health post and we got running water there for the first time! It was very exciting.

Having water at the health post is helping to increase the capacity of the health workers by allowing them to do their jobs more efficiently. Women can now give birth at the health post without bringing their own supply of water, and the hope is to plant trees and start a garden there in the near future.

Thank you so much for all your help!

We, in turn, express our gratitude to Lianna for completing this excellent project so quickly and efficiently.
