The project was to drill a well to provide patients and health center staff easy access to clean water during the entire year.
Ashley reports:
I am pleased to tell you the water well is finally completed.
The process went just as planned in the proposal. The private driller arrived, worked with the health center staff to pick a suitable location, and began drilling. The well is 41 meters deep and has been lined with cement. There is a cover kept on the well at all times when not in use, to keep out leaves and other debris.
Although the water has been tested safe for arsenic, it must be boiled before drinking because of other contaminants. Thus the health center is mostly using the water for the bathrooms, cleaning, and for sterilizing the medical instruments.
The picture below shows children of the community painting a water jar that has been filled with the water from the well. The jar is currently a home for mosquito- larva-eating guppies, which in a few months’ time, we plan to start selling at the health center. Thanks to Appropriate Projects the health center now has another small form of income from the guppy farm!
