The project was to repair the water pump, provide piping to the school kitchen, and add 3 water taps.
Maureen reports:
The Tumani Tenda Primary School had not been able to access water from their hand pump for over six months due to repairs and spare parts needed for the hand pump. We undertook a project to repair the pump and extend the water system to the kitchen and other locations on the school grounds.
The community members mobilized for the trench digging necessary for the laying of pipes and the construction of water taps. An expert in the repairs of water pumps worked together with community members to replace the necessary parts for the pump to become operational again. The project was completed on September 10th, 2012.
The community members, students and teachers at Tumani Tenda Primary School wish to express thanks to Water Charity for assisting in the rehabilitation and extension of the water system in time for the new school year. According to Headmaster Kombo, “The support from Water Charity has allowed Tumani Tenda Primary School to operate more efficiently. The time and energy spent on bringing water from long distances can now be used to focus on education.” The cooks at the school expressed delight in their ease of access to water.
The Water Charity project has eased the burden placed on community members, faculty and students to provide clean water for cooking, farming, gardening, drinking and cleaning. With the support of Water Charity, the rehabilitation and the extension of the water system at The Tumani Tenda Primary School will be able to provide clean drinking water for more than 400 community members, faculty and students.
