Conclusion of Njabini Youth Centre Rainwater Catchment Project – Kenya

This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Jennifer Navala. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.

The project was to build a rainwater catchment and storage system at the Njabini Youth Centre.

Jennifer reports:

The project was completed about three weeks ago.

Instead of using a cement base, we decided on a wooden base to support the tank, as those materials were more readily available, cheaper, and allowed for the purchase of a larger tank.

Construction was completed in one day. This included the building of the base and the installation of gutters, hooks for gutters, and the pipe from the roof to the tank.

Members of Beautify Aberdare were present to oversee the construction and to assist when needed. A hose pipe was also purchased to bring water from the water tank to the site of the tree nursery.

We are grateful to Jennifer in completing this project. The flexibility of those implementing the project led to a result beyond expectations.
