The project was to deepen the well to provide water for the community garden.
John reports:
The Kebbeh Kunda Women’s Garden Well Restoration Project has been successfully completed.
After receiving the money, all funds were immediately paid to the local well contractor, Mr. Modue Sirreh Jallow, owner of Alkawrsara Well Diggers. Mr. Jallow then assembled his crew, purchased the necessary materials (10 bags of concrete, 8 mm and 6 mm steel reinforcing bars, and gasoline for the water pump and transportation), and transported everything 60 km to the project site.
They began digging the well on May 13, 2013. Three additional meters were dug by pumping the ground water out, excavating the soil, then placing the steel reinforcing and cementing each meter, one at a time.
The project was completed by May 17, 2013.
I do not speak Pulaar, the language of the people in Kebbeh Kunda, but my counterpart there, Mr. Samba Baldeh told me that they were very grateful for our help in restoring their well, and they broke out into dance in a display of their appreciation.
