The project was to cement covers on all the wells throughout the village to protect them from contamination.
Sarah reports:
The project was completed, to the benefit of 500 community members.
Local masons donated labor to build well covers throughout the village, with supplies paid for with funds from the Appropriate Projects initiative of Water Charity.
The local population helped out by pulling water to make bricks, buying tea for the laborers, and learning how to use the new wells.
Thanks to the assistance provided by Water Charity, water is no longer contaminated by particulate matter falling into the well, or from rust flaking into the well from oxidized well covers installed in 2007.
The education component was the most important, and will hopefully inspire future action to repair any damage suffered by the well covers, and outreach to construct and repair well covers in surrounding villages.
