Tamara reports:
For the first time in 11 years, the water is flowing to the homes in Cipresal Cascada. This project has finally put an end to women having to ask for water by the bucketful from those more fortunate neighbors who had access to a spring or a small creek. Having water on demand greatly reduces the tedium and drudgery of maintaining a home and family.
The project was delayed when a construction project in the middle of their town blocked the road for several weeks making it impossible to transport the huge and heavy rolls of 2-inch hose to the end of the road closest to the river. Once the way was clear, teams of men hauled each large roll from the end of the road the 3 kilometers up the mountain across very steep terrain. A cement dam was built at the source so the water would pool for uptake. The hose has been secured and buried to protect it and is expected to last for decades into the future. The water now feeds into the community water tank and is distributed to the homes.
The people of Cipresal Cascada, especially the women, extend their sincere thanks to all who made this project possible. “We appreciate that you could ‘see’ us and would care to end our suffering,” they said. We, the Sexto Sol Center team, also express our gratitude for allowing us to carry out this project.
