This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Jessie Maier. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.
The project was to build 8 latrines in Bamkoto.
Jessie reports:
For this project, we successfully built 8 latrines in the village of Bamkoto.
Villagers helped in the construction by digging the holes for the latrines and helping to make the cement bricks. The work was done by skilled masons.
After all the latrines were done I went from compound to compound conducting a hygiene and sanitation training focusing on hand washing with soap, and how germs spread.
Overall, this project is highly successful. Every single villager now has access to a latrine and a better understanding of why latrines are so important.
“Our community is now a safer, cleaner place.” -Babacar Willane, Chief of Bamkoto
Water Charity had the opportunity to inspect the completed project on our recent trip to Senegal. We are grateful to Jessie for carrying out the project.
Jessie writes:
Thank you guys for coming to visit! It means so much to me that you came to see my work. You have no idea!
We again extend our gratitude to the SLOW LIFE Foundation for providing the funding.
