This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Khalil Jarrett. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.
The project was to build a latrine at the school.
Khalil reports:
The Kebare Primary School Latrine Project has been completed!
Prior to the start of the project, we had another community meeting in which we discussed timelines and things needed to be contributed by the community.
Water Charity funds purchased 20 bags of cement, bricks, 5 iron sheets, ventilated PVC pipe, 2-doors, complete with frame and locks, paint, tools, transport, and labor for the main technician in charge of the project.
We began the project by laying the foundation, then laying the base and slab subsequently. During week two, we raised the superstructure using bricks contributed both by community members and Water Charity.
We then placed the roof, plastered the superstructure, and painted the latrine. Lastly, we created a wall, which was plastered and painted to increase privacy for the students.
The school, parents, and headmaster are very content with the project, and wanted to express their sincerest gratitude for Water Charity’s contribution:
“This has produced a very beautiful latrine which has made the school staff, pupils and parents have a sense of belonging. Our pupils’ good hygiene and privacy is now assured. Were it not for your support, we could not be where we are today.
Therefore, the pupils, teachers and parents of Kebare Primary School wish to pass their sincere gratitude to you. God bless you.” – Christine Boke, Head Teacher
Thank you Water Charity for providing the funds for building a new latrine for Kebare Primary School! Your contribution allowed the students to have a structurally-stable, safe, sanitary, and easily accessible latrine to use!
We will be having a ceremony next week to officially open the latrine to the students.
Water Charity is grateful to Khalil for completing this important project.
