The project was to install a water pump and filtration system for the school kitchen.
Benjamin reports:
It is with excitement and gratitude that I report that our water project is complete and has been implemented successfully! The new pump and water filtration system have made a big impact for our school community.
Work started quickly after the money was received, as we had previously consulted and decided upon the filter and pump that was going to be purchased. We also spoke with another school in our district and took advice and recommendations regarding the installation process and maintenance of the equipment.
The hole was dug and the pump installed in the back of the kitchen, with pipes leading to a bigger tank that holds and boils the water for cooking (and making tea). The Director and Groundskeeper of my Lyceum oversaw the installation of the pump and filter, as the funds for the labor was donated from the school. Also, parents of some students donated their time and resources to make everything complete.
Maintenance and replacement elements for the filter have been worked into the school budget, ensuring sustainability.
The kitchen staff raves about the quality of the water, and sees the difference on a daily basis. They are excited that the water they are using is clean and free from so many harmful contaminates.
The entire school is so appreciative and humbled from the support of Appropriate Projects. Thank you so much for your patience, guidance, and generosity. This was one of the highlights of my Peace Corps service here in Ukraine and I cannot thank you enough for this wonderful partnership and opportunity!
We are grateful to Benjamin for completing this project, which is providing a substantial benefit for the students, faculty, and staff.
