The project was to protect the well and bring water to the science room of the school.
Matt reports:
The well outside Lozova’s school was successfully covered, a water pump was installed, and pipes were run into the school building. Sinks were also installed in three classroom spaces increasing the level of sanitation and safety in the science classrooms.
Now the 540 students at the school, not to mention future generations of students to come, will benefit from the new, clean water sources. Moreover, the water source has enhanced the teachers’ abilities to design more engaging, stimulating, and participative science lessons.
The school director and several teachers were instrumental in identifying the need and drafting a plan of action, the school maintenance staff provided the technical skills and labor necessary for the installation of the new materials, and the students have been active and enthusiastic in reaping the benefits of the project.
As an additional stage to our project, activities were (and continue to be) held in the science classes specifically instructing students on the importance of clean water, the dangers of water-borne illness, and the ways a community can keep its water supply safe.
The school community as a whole is extremely grateful and excited about the improvements. Its participation in this project is what made it a success.
It is especially exciting to learn that the director intends to use this as a first step to further increasing access to clean water at Liceu Teoretic Mitropolit Nestor Vornicescu. It is encouraging to see that this project could potentially be the inspiration for future successes.
