The project was to provide running water to the nursery school for drinking, sanitation, and irrigation of the school garden.
Shannon reports:
The Shulinab Nursery Project was completed in July 2010. Project funds were used to purchase approximately 200 meters of piping to connect the village windmill/well to the rainwater tanks located at the nursery school and to build a hand washing facility for use by the 45 nursery students, 4 teachers and primary students at the nearby primary school. Water from the hand washing facility is also used to irrigate the school garden.
The PTFA, headmistress and members of the community provided all labor and were assisted by the Guyana Red Cross.
45 nursery school students and 4 teachers are the primary beneficiaries. However, the 86 primary students and 6 teachers on staff utilize the running water and hand washing facility as well. Water is available to them even during the dry season for hygiene and sanitation, drinking purposes, and their community garden.
