Projects Currently Underway
The Southwest Region of Cameroon is a province that constitutes part of the territory of Southern Cameroons. The region is divided into six divisions or departments, including Meme, which has a population of over 300,000.
The neighborhood of Konye, in the Konye Sub-division, is made up primarily by farmers. It is plagued with lack of access to safe water.
The Cameroonian Red Cross Clinic (no affiliation to the International Red Cross) serves the entire village. The clinic has no direct access to water. The staff currently has to walk 300 meters to a water source that is overcrowded.
The process will involve digging a trench and laying pipes, and connecting to the water supply. The unskilled work will be done by community members.
A cement base and drain will be constructed by a local technician and the tap will be installed by a local plumber.
Water Charity funds will be used to purchase the materials, including cement, pipe, fittings, and fixtures.
500 people will benefit from the project.
The new tap will serve the needs of the neighborhood and the improve access for those left using the existing tap.
