Community Description
Crimea, or the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, is an autonomous republic under the jurisdiction of Ukraine. It is located on the northern coast of the Black Sea, occupying a peninsula of the same name
Sadove is a small agrarian town in Crimea, with a population of 3,500. The community has many Crimean Tartars and other ethnic groups that are not usually seen in Ukraine.
There are three shops for groceries in addition to the bazaar, but if someone needs something besides food they usually have to travel to a town nearby. Farming is the principal occupation.
In 85% of the homes or apartments, there is no running water for various reasons, and people usually have to use a well to obtain water.
The Sadovsky School has approximately 300 students. The children do not have access to water during the school day and have no place to shower after going to gym class.
The school had a running water system but it has fallen into disrepair due to the school’s lack of funding. There is access to a well, located 15 meters away. However, the water is not potable without treatment.
The well has a manual water pump that is used by the custodians and the cooks. The cafeteria has two large 100-liter tanks for water that are filled with buckets every morning so staff may prepare the day’s lunches.
Project Description
This project is to bring water to the school for the use of the children, faculty, staff, and community. The water will be available for drinking, as well as for cooking, cleaning, handwashing, and showering.
First, six meters of outside piping will be dug up and replaced by the school’s maintenance men.
Then, broken pipes that lead from the water supply into the showers in the school gym will be repaired.
The fixtures in the shower room will be replaced and lower faucets will be installed so that the janitors and cafeteria staff will have easy access to collect water for use in the rest of the school
Water will then be routed to washing stations about 4 meters away. The washing stations are for handwashing and will be used by everyone at the school. They will be fitted with new faucets and plumbing.
A total of 35 meters of piping will be installed by local mechanics, teachers, and community members. The mechanics will do specialized work, such as welding and installation of larger pipes.
Fifteen people will work without charge to complete the project, and more will assist with the transportation of materials.
Project funds will be used to purchase pipes, fixtures, and faucets.

This is an ambitious project that will greatly improve the conditions under which the children are learning. In addition, it will improve the ability of faculty and staff to do their jobs.
