- Who We Are
Oleksandrivka is a small village of 1,000 people located in the southern-central region of Ukraine. Nearby is the scenic Inhulets River, a common place for summer recreational activities like swimming and fishing.
Most residents who live in the village work locally at the school or numerous stores, or with the local farming company. Still others commute to Kherson, an oblast center a mere 25 km away.
140 students attend the Oleksandrivka School.
Students use handwashing sinks before eating meals, but the poor quality of the pipes and sinks lessens the quality of the water and also discourages students from using healthy sanitation practices. Currently, only one of the sinks is connected to the water supply, and the other two are not usable.
This project is to improve the sanitation facilities at the school by replacing three handwashing sinks.
The sinks will be installed in the bathroom near the school cafeteria, and connections will be made to the water supply system. The bathroom will be upgraded with new flooring, wall tiling, and paint, and soap dispensers will be installed.
The work will be done by school staff, together with help from parents.
Water Charity funds will be used to purchase the sinks and materials, including pipe, fittings, fixtures, and tile.
