Sovetskiy Secondary School #3 Water Project – Ukraine
Sovetskiy is a town of 10,000 people with three schools, one college, a mosque, an Orthodox church, 2 non-denominational churches, a hospital, a handful of restaurants, and quite a bit of ethnic diversity. Ukrainians, Russians, and Crimean Tatars all call Sovetskiy home.
Sovetskiy is the district center for Sovetskiy Region. Residents work in agriculture, business, and government, though sadly a large number are unemployed.
Sovetskiy School #3 Crimean Tatar Language School was founded in 1997 in an effort to preserve the culture, language and traditions of the Crimean Tatar people. The government allotted an old pre-school building for this school which was inadequate for the number of students, and through various efforts and personal expense it has been made somewhat functional for the current student body.
This project aims to provide handwashing stations and drinking fountains for Sovetskiy School #3.
Water Charity funds will be used to purchase two water filters for drinking water and all related parts including taps and drinking fountains for the filtered water, hoses, clamps, connecter fittings, and filter cartridges. In addition, these funds will purchase six basins for hand washing as well as all the pipes, hoses, faucets, and hardware needed to carry water to the basins and drinking fountains.
Items will be purchased from a local supplier and the school will pay for and perform all related labor. This will involve installing the basins and water fountains and connecting them to the current hardware, installing the new filters, taps and water fountains, and connecting the filter to the taps and sewer.
This project will benefit 368 people, including 243 students, 25 teachers, and 100 family members who enter school facilities to attend meetings and events.
Peace Corps Volunteer Directing Project
The project will drastically improve sanitation as well as provide free drinking water for all students, staff, and families that visit.
