Pshaveli Water System Project – Georgia

Location
Village Pshaveli, Telavi District, Kakheti Region, Republic of Georgia

Community Description
Pshaveli is an agrarian village located in the Kakheti Region near the city of Telavi and is home to 669 families, or approximately 1,900 people.

The community has one school, a kindergarten, library, community center and a wood factory. Unemployment is high, as in most of the villages in the country.

The largest employers are the school (~15), the municipality (~5) and the factory (~10).

Village water is collected in a large tank and a single large valve controls the supply to the households. The valve is failing, causing dirt to contaminate the water supply and heavy leakage at the site of the valve.

Project Description
This project will replace the failing (failed) valve in the community water supply system.

The project will be carried out under the direction of the Community Center “Aisi” and the Pshaveli Village Government.

The area around the valve will first be dug out. The old valve will then be removed and replaced with a new one.

The project will require the rental of a crane, and a regulator.

Water Charity funds will be used to purchase the valve and other materials, and to rent the large equipment.

The community will supply all labor and the additional funds required for equipment rental.

Project Impact
As the valve controls the water supply to every home in the village, approximately 1,900 people will benefit from the project.
