The project was to install a water purification system in the cafeteria of Yarkovskaya School.
After the funds were received, a representative of the school and I visited a local non-profit organization that has had much experience doing projects related to sanitation and clean water. They advised us in purchasing the purification system that would be most appropriate for our school.
A representative of the school and I went to Simferopol to purchase the new purification system from a shop called EpiCenter. Once we brought the system back to our village, teachers and parents of our community met together to discuss the best place to install the system in our school. The mechanic who works at the school installed the purification system during the week of May 21st.
At the end of the week, we celebrated the ending of the school year with students, parents, and city officials. During this ceremony, our school Assistant Principal gave an announcement about this project and informed everyone about how the funds were obtained through Appropriate Projects, and how the new purification system will be used at our school. Everyone was really excited!
The school year has ended, but we have a summer camp at the school now. Each day of the camp, the students stand joyfully in line to fill up their bottles with clean purified water. When our principal tried the water for the first time, she said it tasted excellent!
We are all really grateful that we were able to implement this project. The purification system will be used more regularly during the next school year beginning in September.
We wish to thank Rachel for completing the project and again extend our gratitude to The Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust for providing the funding.
