Emily Reports:
Just wanted to let you know that the project has already been completed in my village.The final latrine is just a simple direct pit latrine 3m x 1.5m x 3m. It has been cemented over by a local mason, leaving two holes (one on each side) for use by the children. A community member supplied simple bamboo fencing to cordon off the latrine and to divide it into two compartments (one for boys, one for girls) for privacy.The latrine is currently benefitting the primary school students and teachers, and will soon benefit more once the new school buildings that are currently under construction are completed.Everyone in the community, though, is incredibly happy with the project, and everyone unanimously agreed that this was a really needed project – my host dad, the chief of the village, told me numerous times how much work I was doing and how they would never forget it, and how good this would be for the students. When my counterpart called to tell me the cementing was complete, he and everyone around him at the time all just said “Allah tanto — thank God” and repeated how happy they were.
