The project was to construct a rainwater catchment and potable water storage system at the school.
Maggie reports:
The St. Felix Roof Water Catchment System is installed and fully operational!
While the tank and hardware arrived promptly in April, it turned out that the old gutter system did not drain to the tank area and had to be reset.
Then the tank faucet (tap) unit failed, a factor defect that involved too much heavy lifting and trucking to be solved by a swap-out so it took a while for the wonderful contractor who did the install (at a big discount) to make the repair. But all’s well that ends well.
We did miss the big rainy season but the roof collection system is ready for snow melt soon to come and the rains that will follow later in the year.
Tank water maintenance and “Wash United” clean hands trainings will now be held in August when the school reopens after July Winter Break.
Thanks again to Water Charity and the wonderful Green Family who provided the funding for this project so the teachers, students and gardens at St. Felix Primary School will have an ample supply of safe, clean water.
