This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Joohee Lee.

The project was to remediate various sanitation problems at the school.

Joohee reports:

The Project has been carried out as planned, and was completed on July 5, 2012. A new squat-down toilet, a urinal, and a sink were installed, all with proper supply and drainage systems.

In addition to the original plan, a small sink/drinking fountain was also put in for children to have access to drinking water. It cost extra 400 UAH (equivalent to $50) which was covered by a contribution from NGO Perspektiva. The staff of the Creative Center painted the interior of the toilet facility with paint that was also donated by NGO Perspektiva.

With completion of this project, more than 300 children on a daily basis have access to clean toilet facilities with increased capacity. This will dramatically improve the water/sanitary issue for the environment where children learn arts and express their creativity and artistry.

Children and staff of the Sovetskiy Creative Center appreciate the funding by Appropriate Projects, which has led to an improvement in the sanitary conditions at the Center, resulting in a long-term impact on the community.

We wish to thank Joohee for completing this project, and again extend our gratitude to the SLOW LIFE Foundation for, with the help of Joohee’s friends and family, providing the funding.
