The project was to rebuild a bathroom to accommodate the needs of the Shelter Plus facility.
Cassandra reports:
A new toilet, urinal, and washstand were connected with all new piping leading to the existing water source and sewage system.
The overall project went pretty smoothly with first steps of removing the existing toilets and old piping. Next, we broke through one of the existing walls and created a new door. After, we patched up the old door using brick and drywall to create the new room, followed by two fresh coats of paint.
This process allowed us access from our main auditorium to the newly refurbish bathroom. After the new entrance way and walls were completed, we continued the project with appropriate tiling (for walls) and flooring.
Cassandra reports on the reactions of the community:
“I’m a coordinator of the project Children Shelter, which has been carried out every Saturday during 4.5 years. There are about 100-120 children and 25 volunteers each week who participates in this project. During all this time so many people were forced to use only one toilet. Therefore we are very happy that this everyday domestic, but very important issue is settled.” – Lesya Romancha
“We purchased this old building 6 years ago and have worked hard to transform it into a unique center for children, teens and young adults. The building was in very bad condition and it takes much money and effort to renovate it. So we are very glad that because of your grant we had a possibility to make one more comfortable WC close to our big hall. It will really serve the needs of our community, especially to the young generation with whom we work directly.” – Juliy Morozov
