Conclusion of Saré Pathé Bouya Middle School Well Project – Senegal

This project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Cibyl Delaire. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.

The project was to build a well to serve the Saré Pathé Bouya Middle School.

Cibyl reports:

Saré Pathé Bouya Middle School now has water!

With the help of Appropriate Projects, the well was completed on schedule and just in time for the peak of hot season. Funds were given to the Principal, Monsieur Sane, who oversaw the purchase of supplies and payment of laborers.

The well was finished with a wall around the top and a simple rope and pulley system. During the summer vacation a development agency called HOPE87 will provide a more permanent system with metal well cover and an India pump. This will be especially important as the well is over twenty meters deep!

The students and teachers are all very excited to have a source of water on the premises and not have to transport their day’s supply to campus or worry about dehydration. Imagine trying to learn in over 110 degree weather without adequate water and you will understand how happy they truly are to have this well.

They have asked me to thank Appropriate Projects and their various donors for their generosity and support.

We are grateful to Cibyl for completing this project, and again wish to thank Stephen Delaire and Cibyl’s other family and friends for providing the funding.
